2023 in review

my oh my it has been a YEAR

i haven’t been posting on social media, because i have an ongoing obsession with scrolling on my phone and all i end up doing is watching other people’s lives and not paying attention to my own

but this year has been so beautifully, chaotically challenging and wonderful that i want to celebrate it somewhere — so consider this my digital scrapbook

JANUARY – FEBRUARY

The cold did not bother me anyway because I had wig parties, candlelight Masses, impromptu Bengals games, Broadway plays, Galentine’s Day, hygge parties, and more to keep me happy.

NOTE: I also signed up for a half marathon and running club during these months. I went to one running club, and did not keep training for the half marathon. I consider this God’s providence.

MARCH

It sort of got warmer and my friends and I sort of did Fiat90 for Lent. (Jk we did it we just rode the struggle bus all the way to adoration & Starbucks each week to tough it out together.) I went home for a Marian retreat, let God fill up my soul while the barbecue place in Owensboro filled my belly. We welcomed baby Onion (Anya) to our Fiat group, had more sleepovers, looked at some Legos and went home in time for a Lewis Capaldi concert with Jacob. :’)

APRIL

We were an Easter people! This meant feasting in the Resurrection, dressing up for a Disney Channel birthday party, getting Heather and Andrew married, and coming back home for some momma-daughter candle making. (ALSO LOOK AT THE OWL I HELD AT THE WEDDING OMG.)

MAY

May oh May. We did our Flying Pig 5k, I celebrated my First Communion anniversary, Sarah and I moved into Katie’s house for a week, I got a curly cut, and my emotions got cut by My Sisters, The Saints. And then we saw lil ginger Ed Sheeran in Atlanta and saw lil beaver Bucee’s! (Both were of equal excitement for me.) And then we took lil James to the pool, which was the most exciting of all. :’)

JUNE

Cue the busiest month of my life — packing for a move to a new apartment, my first Disney Channel night out, my first FC game, my first time making the devs catch a mouse for me at my desk, my first time geocaching in Cincy, & MOST IMPORTANT my fifth time seeing Taylor in concert at the ERAS TOUR. :’)

JULY

a gift of a birthday month that kept giving — moved into The Mantle, visited the zoo, snuggled babies, got my Lan-Lan NKY visit in time for my rainy day birthday party, got a fam day at the Dayton Air Show (complete with an Ikea trip) & my quarter life crisis was looking REAL good :’)

AUGUST

SLIPPED AWAY LIKE A BOTTLE OF WINE — because i visited my first dairy, Syd and I hosted our first housewarming party, I went to the river, kept playing DnD, saw Syd in The Sound of Music, and kept hanging out with a guy named Tony after he kept paying for my dinners.

SEPTEMBER

Tony & I survived our first roadtrip home, Jacob survived a trip to Cincy for Onolicious, me and Jo and Rachel and Carly and Onion survived our girls trip out west (no snakes or scorpions encountered thank you St. Francis,) and Sarah and Ellie survived another year, so we gave them a Barbie birthday !!!

OCTOBER – NOVEMBER

FALL FALL FALL – pumpkins & leaves & Eras Tour movie & football & coffee shop writing time & another Broadway play & painting saints & Thanksgiving & MICHIGAN WIN (i’m sorry not sorry Tony)

DECEMBER

the most wonderful time of the year — shopping & Christmas lights & our Mele Kalikimaka work party & going home for Christmas & our Mantle glittery NYE party to end out the year :’)

to everyone — pictured and not pictured — who has loved, supported & cheered me on throughout 2023, THANK YOU. you push me to be the best Maria i can be, while loving me endlessly in the messiness along the way. i would not be who and where i am today without your love. :’)

thank you God for continuing to give good things in every season — the laughter, the joy, the tears, the discomfort, the crosses are still more than i ever dreamed possible.

Jesus, i surrender 2024 to You, please take care of everything, not according to my will, but according to Yours, and i trust in You.
